WHAT IS SOGO BUJUTSU / BUDO?
The Ultimate Warrior |
The word Sogo is a Japanese term which means; total, overall, complete, and well rounded. Budo translates from Japanese into English as meaning BU = martial, DO = way or path. Sogo Bujutsu / Budo is not a style of martial art. It is a martial strategy for training called Hyoho or Heiho. In ancient Japan the Samurai was expected to be the Ultimate Warrior. Martial arts were looked upon as being not a single discipline, but a bundle of arts (Sogo Bujutsu / Budo), a number of which the Samurai was expected to be thoroughly proficient in. It was important to be well versed in all three areas of fighting tactics, percussion, grappling and weaponry. Versatility was the reason the Samurai were so successful in their exploits. The ability to adapt and to improvise in any situation, to fight empty handed, grapple with or use any type of weapon against an opponent is what made them the ultimate Warriors that they were. Sogo Bujutsu / Budo is not something new. It is the original way or path that nearly all Warriors in feudal times adopted as their standard method of training. In these modern times, authentic Sogo Bujutsu / Budo practitioners are extremely rare but are available for you to learn from. For more information about Sogo Budo, please contact the Sei Shin Kan.
